Jason and Sam’s plan to take down Shiloh took a very dark turn. Look for the cult leader to twist the situation to his benefit. He may end up with some pretty powerful people on his side. Remember to watch General Hospital daily and set your DVRs!
Sam’s plan was demeaning and done to prevent Sonny’s crimes from being exposed. Jason and Spinelli went along with the plan, doing very little to suggest better alternatives. This story seems like a messed up version of The Alligator River Story.
For those unfamiliar with The Alligator River Story, it’s used by educators as an example of a moral dilemma. The teacher reads the story then asks students to list the characters from best to worst. It generally creates a ton of frustrated debate amongst the class. Here’s the story:
Once upon a time there was a woman named Abigail who was in love with a man named Gregory. Gregory lived on the shore of a river. The river, which separated the two lovers, was teeming with man-eating alligators. Abigail wanted to cross the river to be with Gregory. Unfortunately, the bridge had been washed out. So she went to ask Sinbad, a riverboat captain, to take her across. He said he would be glad to if she would consent to go to bed with him preceding the voyage. She promptly refused and went to a friend named Ivan to explain her plight. Ivan did not want to be involved at all in the situation. Abigail felt her only alternative was to accept Sinbad's terms. Sinbad fulfilled his promise to Abigail and delivered her into the arms of Gregory. When she told Gregory about her amorous escapade in order to cross the river, Gregory cast her aside with disdain. Heartsick and dejected, Abigail turned to Slug with her tale of woe. Slug, feeling compassion for Abigail, sought out Gregory and beat him brutally. Abigail was overjoyed at the sight of Gregory getting his due. As the sun sets on the horizon, we hear Abigail laughing at Gregory.
I see a lot of discussion online from fans as to who is the worst – Sam, Jason, Spinelli, Sonny, Shiloh, Kristina, etc. I don’t know if this was the writers intent or not but either way this story isn’t an appropriate one to tell on GH with these characters, especially as follow-up Kiki’s MeToo storyline. The Alligator River Story is a much simpler tale containing characters without histories.
Given Sam’s past experiences, her plan to “drink the kool-aid” so that Shiloh could brand her and attempt to have sex with her hasn’t set well with a lot of viewers. It doesn’t make her the tragic heroine when she was doing this to help Sonny cover his criminal activity. If they all realized that the one at risk was really Alexis instead of Sonny, it’s doubtful that they would go to this extreme. Alexis would not be okay with this ploy. Kristina wasn’t okay with Sam being around Shiloh at the Nurses Ball. Molly’s plan to utilize the power of the press to expose Shiloh is a much better plan than Sam’s. One has to wonder how much better this would have been with Davis girls calling the shots. In the end, this feels more like an inmate’s fan fiction than a educational study.
